Pictures have emerged showing the cheerleading coach accused of performing oral sex on a 17-year-old student kissing her fiance and partying with friends ahead of her arrest.
Megan Crafton, 22, handed herself in to police on June 15 after the teenage boy, who was on the school basketball team, told officers about the liaison in the parking lot of a grocery store in January.
Despite facing the charge of child seduction, Crafton looks very much in love with her fiance in the pictures on her Twitter page, as she kisses him and grins with him for the camera.
One one Instagram photo of the pair, she reportedly wrote: 'He has my whole heart.'
The stunning teacher, who works at Shelbyville High School in Indianapolis, also smiles and pulls faces alongside friends in a far cry from the predatory suspect police have claimed her to be.
Despite admitting to the sexual act earlier this year, Crafton pleaded not guilty to the child seduction charge in court on Friday.
'She wasn't his coach,' Crafton's lawyer, G. Allen Lidy, said. 'She wasn't his teacher. She wasn't his teacher's assistant.'
He pointed out she was the assistant cheerleading coach and did not coach the basketball team.
The 22-year-old is not a teacher and did not coach the student but was in a position of authority.
But Lt. Michael Turner of the Shelbyville Police Department countered: 'We wouldn't be having this conversation if it was her and some other gentleman who doesn't go to the school, or isn't part of the school system, but unfortunately in this case, it was and it made it illegal.
'When she signed on as an assistant cheerleading coach, she took a responsibility that she wouldn't have relations at that school.'
Though the age of consent for sexual activity in Indiana is 16, adults are legally prohibited from having sex with anyone under the age of 18 if they hold authority over them as part of their job.
Police were asked to investigate by the school after rumors have swirled around their employee and senior student since January.
The school refused to comment on the matter because of the ongoing criminal investigation.
Crafton's jury trial is set to begin on September 24. She paid bond on the day of her arrest.
In the court appearance later this year, she is expected to argue that she did have relations with the 17-year-old but that they were legal.
She is expected to argue that, as a cheerleading coach, she did not have supervision over the basketball player who was over the age of legal consent.
Crafton's boyfriend, to whom she is reportedly engaged, has yet to comment about the matter.
